It was May 1st a couple of days ago, and that marked hike/bike 26 out of 52 in my #52in25 series! I’m making great progress, and as it stands should be well on target before the end of the year.
I have been quiet on here lately. I’ve been dealing with some personal issues, which I’ll spare you, so haven’t had much time to update the blog. But I have kept a record of all my outings, and have pictures to go along with them. I’m going to share a number of updates here. Let’s go!
I’ll start with number 26 and work backwards to 18. Number 17 was a hike at one of my favorite SoCal trails – Eagle Rock on the PCT.
26 was a 14.5 mile ride around the trails of Lake Poway. To go around it once is only 3 miles, but I took some side trails, and hit the part of the hill up to Potato Chip Rock too. I’ve been meaning to go the whole way, so hopefully I can knock that one out before the hot weather really kicks in soon.
I’ve shared photos from Lake Poway a few times on here, so I’ll just share a couple from a perspective that I haven’t already.
25 (15 miles) and 23 (19 miles) were both bike rides at Sycamore Canyon! 23 was the more eventful, having almost stepped on a rattlesnake crossing the barrier to get into the trail system. It was snuggled up against a rock right inside, and wasn’t really bothered by me. I got some really close up pics, and a little video too. He decided I wasn’t worth messing with at that point, and retreated into the bushes 🙂
That same day I stopped and talked to one of the rangers there at the entrance (before snake encounter). He was putting the finishing paint touches on an amazing piece of work he had carved. The new ‘welcome’ sign is awesome! Check it out in the pics here.
For 24, I hit up Miramar Lake in Scripps Ranch. It’s an easy 5 miles walk, with some nice scenery along the way. It was strangely overly full! I’ve never seen it like that. I can only guess that they may have pumped water into it from another lake nearby for some reason.
22 was a late April hike with the family on the Coast to Crest trail from near the freeway exit at Villa de la Valle, all the way to dog beach in Del Mar and back. Such beauty in this area, and watching the dogs (ours included) play in the water at the turning point, is a nice treat. It can be mayhem there lol!
Penasquitos canyon is another local hotspot that I like to spend time at every so often. I try to do this on and others on weekdays if possible, because it can be a little overrun. This was hike number 21, and approx 7 miles.
20 was another Lake Poway trip. This time on foot, and just the 3 mile loop. If you have little ones, the new playground there is amazing!
19 You guessed it. Lake Poway. 13 miles on bike. I helmet mounted my GoPro Hero 13 for this trip, and set it to capture pictures every 10 seconds. Some of the results were stunning! The sky looked really special that day. Something about those clouds!
And finally for this update, number 18 in the series was a six miles bike ride at Sycamore Canyon! Here’s some pics of the old farm equipment scattered throughout the area.
I’ll try to post more often. I was not planning to do an update like this, but it is what it is.
Thanks for reading.
